World Hepatitis Day

World Hepatitis Day is one of only four official disease-specific world health days declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is celebrated every year on the 28th of July. This year, the theme of the global campaign is ELIMINATION. With the adoption at the World Health Assembly of the Global Health Sector Strategy for Viral Hepatitis and at the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific of the Regional Action Plan for Viral Hepatitis in the Western Pacific 2016-2020, member states have signed up and committed to the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

Hepatology Society of the Philippines

The Hepatology Society of the Philippines (HSP) has been at the forefront of advocacy for viral hepatitis in the Philippines. The HSP is committed to creating awareness among the various stakeholders including health care providers and the general public. Together with its partners, the HSP was instrumental in the creation of a policy on Hepatitis B in the Workplace.

The HSP maintains a public awareness campaign on Hepatitis B called the B Aware Campaign. This is a multi-platform campaign with the objective of raising awareness about Hepatitis B among the general public. The Campaign maintains a very active Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BeAwarePH) and a website (www.beawareph.com). In the next few months, the B Aware Campaign will roll out its awareness activities on print and radio.
