Your Liver, Your Life
“Your Liver, Your Life” is the basic theme that inspired thegastroenterologists of Cebu City to come up with a weeklong activity to increase public awareness on various liver diseases in celebration of the World Hepatitis Day. The event kicked off with the formal opening of the outpatient based LIVER CLINIC last July 28, 2011 in all Cebu major hospitals to provide ideal management strategy and construct a centralized database encompassing the clinically relevant liver ailments.
Five hundred barangay health workers gathered at Cebu International Convention Center later that day to attend the Liver Lay forum to gain knowledge of the global story of hepatitis and the real life impact of this disease on Filipinos. The four vital educational messages of the celebration “Get protected, Get tested, Get vaccinated and Get treated” were highlighted during the forum. Free Hepatitis B testing and Flicker test for hepatic encephalopathy were also offered to interested participants. The celebration culminated with a charity run entitled“ LiveRUN 2011…..Run for your LIVER” on August 7, 2011 at 3K, 6K and 12K categories. Around one thousand participants assembled at Chong Hua Medical Arts as the jumpstart venue. The event was also well attended by professional runners from different renowned running circle. Proceeds of the run were raised to provide resources for educational materials and free hepatitis B screening program in the hope to improve public consciousness by holding a monthly local cavalcade named “suroy-suroy sa SUGBO barangay”.
